Year in Review: VPI Activities Report 2023-2024

August 19, 2024 •

The Voluntary Principles Initiative (VPI) is pleased to release its Activities Report covering some of the key accomplishments from May 1, 2023, to April 30, 2024. These efforts are well-aligned with the Initiative’s strategic objectives to elevate the VPI’s global presence and leadership, as well as to strengthen support for on-the-ground implementation of the Voluntary Principles on Security and Human Rights (VPSHR).

Over the past year, the VPI made significant strides in demonstrating its global presence through participation in a myriad of events around the world ranging from industry conventions to panels and meetings with thought leaders and other stakeholders.

The Initiative also released new resources and organized public webinars addressing thematic issues frequently faced by those implementing a meaningful security and human rights program, such as the protection of vulnerable groups and human rights defenders, and increased its offer of key resources in different languages, such as French, Portuguese, and Spanish.

Improving on-the-ground implementation is another highlight of the report, which includes information on the support, both technical and financial, to the In-Country Working Groups — multistakeholder groups made up of government, business, and civil society organizations that support the implementation of the VPSHR at national or regional level in different parts of the globe.

Another achievement of the year is the growth of the Initiative. At the Annual Plenary meeting in May, the VPI welcomed a record number of new Members, including the Government of Mozambique as a new Engaged Government Member. This brings the VPI membership to more than 75 Members and Observers comprising corporations, governments, and NGOs, underscoring the continued relevance of the VPs after more than two decades of its creation.

The VPI looks forward to another year of impactful work with our Members, Observers, and key stakeholders. The full Activities Report 2023/24 is available on the website. Please click on the button below to view the report.
