VPI Activities Report 2024 – 2025

April 22, 2025 •

The VPI is pleased to announce the release of the Activities Report 2024-2025, an account of the Initiative’s major undertakings over the past year and into early 2025. The publication documents progress across three strategic pillars—global leadership, collaboration and partnerships; country‑level implementation; organizational growth—while detailing the concrete actions taken to advance security‑related human rights worldwide.

Key highlights of the report include:

  • Strengthening global engagement through participation and speaking engagements at international events and forums such as Ipieca Week, EXPOSIBRAM, OECD Forum on Responsible Mineral Supply Chains, African Business and Human Rights Forum, and the 14th Gold + Diamond Conference. The VPI Secretariat also engaged in a number of country-level activities, such as a workshop by the Burkina Faso Chamber of Mines, and a meeting with Argentina’s National Secretariat of Mining. The latter prompted a follow up presentation on the Voluntary Principles to more than 30 stakeholders from mining and energy companies and civil society organizations in Argentina, as well as the Argentinian government.
  • Deepening in‑country implementation, most notably with the formal launch of the Chile In‑Country Working Group (ICWG) in September 2024, and continued support to established groups in Ghana, Nigeria, Brazil, and partner groups in Colombia, DRC, Mozambique, and Peru. These multi‑stakeholder platforms are helping local actors identify and address security‑related human‑rights risks, thereby strengthening VPSHR implementation on the ground.
  • Governance reforms of the Initiative that introduce a new compliance review process, updated admission requirements for corporate applicants, and revised guidelines for verification presentation and annual reporting—steps designed to enhance accountability and foster continuous improvement among VPI Members.
  • Resource expansion, including presentations and workshops of key VPI implementation guidance documents, along with multilingual editions released—such as “10 Steps to Maintain Security in Compliance with Human Rights” and the “Guidance on Respecting the Rights of Human Rights Defenders”—to broaden accessibility in French, Spanish, and Portuguese.

The VPI looks forward to another year of impactful work with our Members, Observers, and important supporters and stakeholders. The full Activities Report 2024-2025 is available by clicking on the button below.
