A provisional vote in favour of engaged membership took place in December 2022, which was ratified at the VPI Annual Plenary, held May 23-26, 2023, in London, United Kingdom. The DRC is the second African country – and the first from Central Africa – to apply for VPI Membership, following Ghana.
